I think it is unfortunate that you have chosen to link a story about "missing" Scouts with stories concerning 2 million uninsured drivers, a felon who died re-offending whilst on Polis bail and 14 escaped convicts.

The centenery jamboree was an overwhelmingly successful event for 40,000 participants from all over the world.

My son was a member of the build team who prepared the site in the 3 weeks preceeding the event. The build team comprised over 2,000 volunteers of all ages and from varied walks of life. Facilities on-site comprised toilets, mess tents, supermarkets, cash dispensers, a concert stage - effectively a small village was built in three weeks.

40,000 people from a spectrum of cultures and nationalities attended the event, not including the additional day visitors who travelled from all over the UK.

There was no stabbings, no fighting, no drugs, no drunkenness, no arrests. Statistically, the organisers could have expected 2 deaths during the event. Happily, there were none. The level of planning and organisation that went into the staging of the event showed professionalism of the highest standard.

40,000 young people have returned home with memories of experiences that will stay with them for a long time. I doubt if any of them will cause work for their local constabulary in the years to come.

The 13 abscondees will, hopefully, turn up in due course. They will all have their own explanations to give. I don't expect any of them to spark a crimewave anytime soon.

I'll get my coat . . .. . .
