And another thing....
Politicians just cant help themselves but tinker....they see a soundbite ..their advisers and think tanks shovel up the figures and there you go.... bouts of vacuous nonsense ...sustained by drip fed columns in the press.
Stop and Search is the latest to get the approach
Apparently stop search figures show a million stop and searches are 'pointless' as they don't lead to an arrest.
The armchair wannabes miss the point.
It is not the success of the search that is important it is the fact that there are officers out there putting hands in pockets that is the issue.
It is the deterrent...
Grounds for stop and search are under 'reasonable grounds' based on a number of factors, local knowledge ,intelligence briefings or just that plain old coppers hunch that something is not right.
Our actual arrest figures would be through the roof if we had X ray vision, the ability to read minds or see into the future.
Sadly none of which feature in any NCALT training package currently available.
Though the hindsight merchants at Discipline and the IPCC seem to think we have these in abundance when our a***s are chewed months and years down the line .
If Ms May imposes restrictions on the use of these powers so be it.
Once our clients and customers know we are far less likely to 'turn them over' in a stop they will play the odds and carry and use...... etc
Crime WILL rise and the use of weapons, the abuse and distribution of drugs and property theft will become a major issue.
No community in London wins by the arrangement
The soundbites then?...lazy incompetent police...what are they doing about it.?...
You can see the Daily rags cut and pasting the stories now...

I don't actually agree with stop and search, but from what I hear, everyone is saying that it is racist, most people being stopped and searched are either black or asian.
What do you think?

I apologise, its considered rude to answer a question with a question.
But why do you disagree with stop and search?
To be honest I would find it embarrasing and humiliating, especially if done on the streets.
I can understand the potential for people feeling that way but stop and search is done 'on the street' unless a more in depth search is required.
I dont think stop and search is in itself racist.
If you are stoppping someone simply because of the colour of their skin then I can understand the point.
If you are stopping someone because they match the description of someone involved in crime or are in an area being targeted because of problems with certain types of crime or are known offenders and whos behaviour and circumstances merit a stop then so be it.
In some parts of London certain crime offences in certain areas are overly represented by certain groups within the population.
The sociological reasons and issues around it have been and are discussed in assorted forums for some years.
But if you are an officer working in an area and are tasked to deal with certain crime trends and have the information based on local knowledge/intelligence reports that certain individuals and gangs are involved in A B and C, you would not be doing your job if you failed to act upon the information availabe.
Stop and search is not an exact science. It will always create resentment in some.Whether you are a known criminal or an individual who may have no criminal history at all, but happen to be by way of particular circumstance, stopped by police and searched
But it is a very useful tool and to circumscribe it as Ms May is hinting at, will benefit no one in the long run.
That explains it better.
Thankyou
