I thought you told him?
Apparently the Comish was not kept in the loop.
I find it kind of hard to believe no one put a word in to the Commissioners office to let him know what they planned to do.Its not as if I am against thinking for yourself in this job. Lets face it any decision that requires some form of contentious action requires a number of Gold strategy meetings or a series of hastily convened community outreach workshops etc.....
If someone thought it a good idea to try and ensure the ones openly and regularly carrying guns on the areas where gun crime and its affects are rife are trained police officers seems to be a good one to me.
Apparently the great and the good don't feel this is right and would rather the streets are left to the gangs on the Estates.
And apparently the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) weren't consulted... so there you go. All proactive actions in relation to serious ongoing crime trends to be put on hold then.
Still the Commissioner may have been distracted. I am informed he has been actively out and about challenging anyone not patrolling singly and associated dress codes.
Still early days for 5 P's....but it would now appear someone forgot to Pass the armed Patrol decision on.

News reports suggested that people who live in the boroughs concerned felt like they had been "stigmatised" by the decision to put armed patrols out.
WHAT????
I live in one of these areas and I would be glad to hear that extra patrols were being made.
What's the problem with this tactic?
Armed officers are out there anyway and it sends the right message. If it alters the perception of the bad guys then it's all good.
As Blue Eyes says it would make many feel more secure.
Its a bizarre old world isnt it.
In a city where certain Boroughs experience serious violence on a regular basis that people(I doubt they actually live in those areas) feel they must protest at the thought of armed officers regularly patrolling on hand and on call.
The other or usual scenario is....Incident,shots fired, units to RVP awaiting armed response..and then that wait whilst a patrol gets to the RVP.
Low life just get that big time gap to drift into the background.
And then the MPA griping they werent informed.
Personal opinion is that this sort of reactive decison to a crime problem is not or should ever be their direct concern.
There is less chance of a decision involving that bunch of anti/for,'fence sitters' 'cant decides' (until the latest poll gives them a hint). You could wait until hell freezes.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL OUR POLICE OFFICERS
Please spare a thought this Christmas for the lads and lasses who will be doing their very best to ensure we all enjoy a safe and peaceful christmas – the police officers who will be working while we enjoy our rest over Christmas. Spare them a kind thought and send them your best wishes. We pray that your shifts pass peacefully and that you are able to enjoy some special festive times with your families and loved ones.
A special thank you goes out to the unsung heroes of police blogging this year and the years that have gone before. Having worked long, hard challenging shifts, dealing with the worst society can throw at them, they find the time and energy to write their articles, share their experiences, with a great passion for “What’s right” and delivered in the most part, with good humour.
Thank you to one and all, you know who you are, for all your fine efforts. We look forward to plenty more and perhaps some well deserved reforms for you in 2010.
With best wishes
Steve & The Team

Merry Christmas - have a good un!
Best Wishes - Steve & the gang at Thin Blue Line uk
