Efficiency

Efficiency is defined as the ability to produce something with a minimum amount of effort

Sir BHH has admitted there will be far fewer people dealing with things in the future but we will be efficient?

This organization can never… ever…. be efficient by the very nature of what it does.

I can understand a concept of re-examining input at one point in the system and then examining at what time it emerges at the other end of the system, e.g. car production as an example.

However what we do can never be efficient because of the variables in the system ‘production line’ which are totally out of the MET control.

Examples such as...suspect detained requires solicitor, suspect detained has mental health issues, suspect detained requires interpreter, suspect detained requires appropriate adult. I could go on and on….

Even an adult, English speaking, no issues, simple job can overrun a shift as it gets caught up in the melee of priority and who can do what at what time etc….

There is an ever dwindling box of officers who are available to deal either with stuff out on the street or in custody.

I see the officers lining up in custody cages waiting to book people in. The problems start there.

That is not efficiency.

It is throwing a ball marked with a custody number on a roulette wheel and hoping it lands on a spot where there is an OIC, interpreter, duty solicitor and appropriate adult available to deal if required….

Sir BHH talks about passion and commitment.

He gets commitment. We turn up day in and day out and make this work….

Passion?...... too F******  tired

MET loss

PC Andy Duncan, who was hit by a car in the early hours of Friday 20th as he tried to stop a car in the Sutton area has died of his injuries . The car made off and was found abandoned later . Two arrests have been made so far in relation to this.

At the time of the incident Baroness Jones, Green Party member of the London Assembly, was quoted as having said '68 people were killed or injured every week in hit-and-run incidents'

Thanks for the stats Jenny

Ms Jones was at one time London Assembly Road Safety Ambassador. She advocated issues such as  20 mph zones and increased traffic policing.

Well Ms Jones, Pc Duncan has died trying to keep Londons roads safe.

Boris's quote sounds like a straight cut and paste wordbite from the last time an officer fell in the line of duty

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has said: "On behalf of the Metropolitan Police family, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his wife and children, parents, family and friends.

"Andy was a hard working and courageous policeman. He served the community as both a police officer and as a scouting volunteer.

"The night he was injured, he was doing a job that he loved and we all had every right to expect he would return safely to his home and family - tragically that was not the case."
